Trekkers relatively rarely visit the remote and wild district
of Dolpa and yet it offers a wonderful chance to experience
a landscape and culture for different from that seen in
other part of Nepal. Located in the western part of Nepal,
the focal point of the area is the shey phoksundo National
park. This remote and rugged protected area is both scenically
and culturally attractive. It is the havitat of various
rare and endangered plants and wild life species many
of which can be seen nowhere else in the country. Animal
species of particular interest in the national park and
populations of snow leopard, grey wolf and blue sheep.The
flat upper valley contains a number of villages mostly
inhabited by people of magar and Gurung origin although
they speak and dress like the Tibetans that they share
the valley with . There are a number of Buddhist and Bou
temples here, all worth investigating.
